Follow tradition or not?
As many of you may already know, I’m African, so In this blog I’m going to write about some of the different cultural traditions that we have. Not all people follow these and some aren’t as strictly instructed anymore, but yeah you can decide for yourself if you would agree or disagree. I disagree with all of these. Sorry mom and dad. I don’t care,
Number 1:
A man is the head of the house, makes all household decision, and the woman must do what he says.
*I totally disagree with this so called tradition, because what makes a man so much more superior than a woman? She can do the exact same thing as he can. I don’t think the woman should have to do anything a man tells her to, As long as she is independent she doesn’t even have to think twice about what he says. She should be able to make decision to, I mean they’re going to effect her also. So I say she should have a part.
Number 2:
If a girl wants to marry, the parents have to agree with the Man she is trying to marry.
*For this one I’m in the middle. I disagree because, sometimes parents judge too quickly and some don’t even take the time to get to know someone. I agree though, because your parents are the people who have raised you and they try to make decisions that will benefit you, there’re not making them to hurt you so, I’m Half and half.
Number 3:
When a Man wants to marry a woman he must pay the girls family. In Africa, since they’re mostly farmers you pay with cattle.
*I disagree. Why in the world should you have to pay to marry the person you want to spend your life with. In a guys point of view, I would see this as un-fair. Wouldn’t this cause someone to not want to marry the person they wanted to marry anymore? Well if its true love maybe not, but to me its practically selling your daughter.
Number 4:
A man can have more than one wife if he chooses.
Ha yeah right! DISAGREE TO THE MAX! That’s ridiculous. I thought the whole reason you marry someone is because you love them and b/c they’re the only one you want to spend you life with. There’s no reason for having two wives. I disagree strongly.
